Militant Flak ‘N’ Roll from Tallinn, Estonia since 1996. (LOITS meaning spell/incantation)

“There is actually nothing modern in Loits. I reckon there may be some similarities on the rock side in our music to Black ́n ́Roll trend, which was in time of releasing our album Vere kutse kohustab pretty overpowering in the Scandinavia, but otherwise is our music always been either nostalgic or even in some ways innovative. Since the cold, dark and evil is expressed in Loits through war themes, it felt fitting to substitute the word Black for the similarly sounding Flak. Flak being an anti-aircraft weapon.” – from the ViktorasBlogas interview (link below)

These guys have been around for quite awhile. Can´t say I know that much about Estonian bands but obviously there´s stuff that one should know about. For a lot of people from all over the world, LOITS seemed to be one of the highlights (or THE highlight). Been diving a bit more into their releases and lyrics since I got back home. Also great thing that there are always shitloads of great stuff to discover. It´s neverending and I´m very happy for that:)

Black metal band from Lahti, Finland, founded in 2006.
Couldn´t stay for very long but sounded good on stage. The new album seems to be an interesting one. Only heard it once so a couple more spins and then I know what I feel about it. Sounds very promising, tho.
RAUTA has a review on his channel.
“IV – Infinite Victor” is our homage to the ultimate victor, Death. The fourth horseman of Apocalypse. Under Satan´s blessing, eventually Death will take you, the whole mankind, even god & Satan himself. Everything ends someday. I suggest you start preparing to follow him. The album deals also with the strong topic of might is right. How flesh eventually obeys steel. Blood, flesh, iron, dust. All the keys in the hands of the beast!” – Von Bastard. “Coming together in 2011 from members of two other Finnish bands, SADOKIST and DAEMONLUST. They released a demo in 2014 called Satanists Angels Victory Call and a split album with the aforementioned DAEMONLUST. In 2019 they put out a six-track demo titled Symbols of Violent Death.”

Didn´t find so much info about these guys but overall a good gig even in full sunlight. We got lots of that sun stuff during the weekend:) Great in many ways, could have turned down a bit during the performances but what can you do.

“Hail Conjurer is the sole province of prolific underground veteran Harri Kuokkanen, renown for Hooded Menace, Ride For Revenge, and Horse Latitudes.
Under the selfsame nom de plume Hail Conjurer, he creates ugly and idiosyncratic black metal born from ancient fires and dark desires, and since the band’s birth in 2017, he’s explored this unique muse across a grand total of five full-lengths, four demos, two splits, one collaborative album, and a digital single. Truly, Hail Conjurer is a dark and dank headspace like no other”
– Kronosmortus News

HAIL CONJURER is a one man band even on stage, but still lots of sound. No live guys, just Harri Kuokkanen who is a very productive person with quite a lot of different stuff going on. Been checkin him out afterwards and so far the -22 album “Earth Penetration” is the coolest.
Not heard everything yet, tho.

Black metal from Colombia. Founded 1994 as “Dies Irae”, change of name to Utuk-Xul in 1997. So far a demo in -07, 5 full lengths, a bunch of splits and a compilation.

Can´t find som much info of these guys but there´s a link to an interview with Rauta somewhere below↓
Great gig, tho, and they had their fans for sure. Inferus Vobyscum had a great voice and the guitarist Nibras was one of the most photogenic ones at the festival.
The bassplayer made a LOT of promotion for “Utuk-Xul” coffee that was sold in the merch:))  Colombian coffee of course.

“Nattverd was initially started in the 90`s, but due to reasons beyond control, was delayed up until 2014.”
Great gig and the new album is really good! Would most definitely go & see live again. Quite a few Norwegian bands at Steelfest. All of them awesome!

“Black Metal band from Mänttä, Finland, founded in 1992 by Satanachia (Miika Ojala) and Samiaza (Niko Niemelä). The band made only two recording in the 1990’s and was largely inactive for many years, not releasing anything between 1996 and 2011. Also, it wasn’t until 2009 when Azazel performed live for the first time.” -metason.net

My second year at Steelfest and AZAZEL playing as first band on the outdoor stage both times. Hope they do even next year. Seems like a good tradition:)  Dunno if they´ve been there every year but at least many times. And no, the 2017 Steelfest has not been repeated even tho alcohol is obviously a part of the whole AZAZEL thingy. They have actually been pretty good live and I  like the latest album “Aegrum Satanas Tecum” quite a bit.

– Label: Primitive Reaction
– Band: Lord Satanachia Vocals Mavrofos Guitars Idimmu Drums Raakalainen Guitars Lucifuge Rofocale Bass
Lord Satanchia appears in the Finnish Black Metal documentary “Eternal Flame of Gehenna” (Original title: Loputon Gehennan liekki) 2011
Mavrofos and Lucifuge Rofocale also performed in RIENAUS at the festival
– The 2020 edition of Steelchaos was streamed with all the bands at the venue but no crowd. Lord Satanachia got sick but they didn´t want to cancel, so he was doing his part from home when the rest of the band was at the venue playing on stage. Lord Satanachia commenting:
“We all saw the situation differently in the band but I didn’t think it was a good idea to be sick in a place where there were a bit more people anyway, and even though the gig was virtual, there was still an audience and, of course, staff. I belong to a risk group so my first thought was just to cancel the show. Then our drummer, Idimmu, had this sick idea that what if we pull the gig anyway having me singing at home, and them playing at the venue. So we made some very special adjustments and pulled it through. It was a good thing even though I was a bit wasted that time, as well. Azazel does what Azazel wants” – Interview for chaoszine.net

The first day, the first band to play (around 2PM). Just arrived to the festival area and had stuff to organize up so couldn´t give them proper attention.

Took some pics and had to get going. Recognized Ari XIII in the lineup. He played with Iku-Turso at last years edition of Steelfest. This festival is really great even for getting updated with the Finnish scene. Lots of good bands and musicians there.

The debut album “Vihavirsiä aamunkoin” sounds pretty good and also got good reviews @ Imperiumi.net.
Didn´t find so much info about them.

I love Norway and many Norwegian bands, but TAAKE is definitely the most “Norway” to me. Epic (as always) show. Even with only one guitar. The second guitar ( Aindiachaí  or Sanrabb  ?) was on his way but got stuck somewhere for some stupid reason and couldn´t get to the festival:/ Gjermund is a hero and an awesome musician so in the end it all had the best possible outcome. Ofc they played Myr also. Banjo solos rule!:D
Pehr from ALFAHANNE appeared on stage again for one song:)
On stage @ Steelfest: Hoest Rune Nesse (drums) Gjermund Fredheim (guitar & banjo) V’gandr (bass)
